The Day of the Triffids
I saw this, oh, twenty years ago, and I really enjoyed it back then. So, when we saw it on Netflix, we couldn't resist. It is interesting, gritty, and thoughtful -- though the reason for the downfall is hand-waved in a kind of silly way, the ultimate message, "human beings are mostly jerks, because jerks survive" opens up a lot of philosophical questions. I really enjoyed it twice, now! This is totally ripe for a remake. I wonder what the book is like?

I read this book and really enjoyed it though I've never seen the film. It's a quick read, but my mental image of triffids remains creepy enough to startle me now and again.
ReplyDeleteBBC did a 2009 re-make of Day of the Triffids:

I saw only the first installment, and it was okay, but I haven't lost any sleep over having missed the conclusion.
The Danny Boyle film 28 Days Later took so many plot elements from Day of the Triffids that it could almost be counted as a re-make, and a pretty good one at that IMO.
Whoa! I'll have to check that out!
ReplyDeleteThis bbc version is still my favourite version, i just wish they would make The chrysalids
